Clark County is due for colder, wetter autumn weather this week, leading to dry skies and low nighttime temperatures this weekend.

“We’ve been lulled into these mild nights with nice temperatures at nights,” said Clinton Rockey, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Portland. “We’re in for crispy cool nights with cool to mildish rains Thursday night and Friday.”

The Weather Service issued a special weather statement on Tuesday warning about the change to cooler weather. Snow levels will drop as low as 1,500 feet late Friday night into Saturday, with up to 6 inches of snow possible above 3,000 feet.

Over the weekend, a potent storm system is forecast to move into Clark County from the Rocky Mountains, pushing cold air into the Cascades and into our area.

“It will be dry over the weekend Saturday onward, but it will be cool,” Rockey said.

Clark County will have temperatures into the upper 40s to lower 50s, and nighttime temperatures in the lower 30s and upper 20s in northern Clark County on Saturday and Sunday night.

“We’ll have frosty conditions forming out there,” Rockey said. “It’s not unusual to see frost this time of year. It’s going to be a shock for people because they haven’t seen these temperatures since last winter.”
