RIDGEFIELD – It could be argued that no prep football team in Clark County is hotter than the Ridgefield Spudders..and no player is in the zone quite like sophomore quarterback Brayden Malella.

Malella threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns as the third-ranked Spudders scored the game’s first 35 points en route to a 42-7 win over the Hudson’s Bay Eagles in a 2A Greater St. Helens League matchup.

Malella, a junior who entered the game as the county’s top passer with 617 yards, threw two touchdown passes to Ty Snider for 40 and 30 yards and one each to Isaiah Cowley and Jakob Braunstein. At one point, Malella completed seven consecutive passes.

Braunstein caught three passes for 103 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown Sinder hauled in four passes for 96 yards and Cowley added 83 yards receiving for the Spudders, who moved to 2-0 in league play and 4-0 overall.

Niyjiel Brown rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles (0-1, 0-3). Dylan Damos added 57 yards receiving.

Hudson’s Bay was without Mateo Varona for all of the second half. The junior running back was injured in the closing stages of the first half and didn’t return.

Next week Ridgefield travels to Washougal and Hudson’s Bay plays host to Mark Morris at Kiggins Bowl.
