Prep basketball: Freshman Dez Daniel leads Evergreen boys past Columbia River

Freshman Dez Daniel scored 32 points and senior Quincy Caston sealed the win with a pair of free throws with four seconds left as the Evergreen boys basketball team Columbia River 85-83 on Wednesday.

Evergreen (2-6) snapped a five-game losing streak with a larger offensive output than in its previous two games combined.

Daniel hit 4 of 7 3-pointers, and junior Landon Rayner was 6 of 8 from 3-point range to finish with 19 points.

Caston’s late free throws gave the Plainsmen an 85-80 lead before River’s Ari Richardson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Richardson connected on 6 of 9 3-pointers and scored 24 points.

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 82 ADNA 58 — Giovanny Evanson scored 26 points to lead four Knights in double figures as King’s Way Christian won a road non-league game.

Jamison Duke scored 18 points, and Jaydon Hall and Ryan Tyler added 15 each for the Knights, who hit 16 of 17 free throws.

Girls basketball

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 48, KNAPPA (Ore.) 39 — Ella Zimmerman had 17 points and five rebounds, and Bridget Quinn added 12 points, 10 rebounds and three assists as the King’s Way Christian girls basketball team wrapped up play in the Queens of the Court Tournament in Tigard, Ore.

After taking a 28-21 halftime lead, King’s Way took control with 15-6 third quarter.

Hannah Erwin added eight points for the Knights at an event played at Westside Christian High School.

CROSSROADS CHRISTIAN (Calif.) 40, MOUNTAIN VIEW 21 — Katelyn Henderson scored six points and Nina Peterson added five as the Thunder fell to Crossroads School of Santa Monica, Calif., at the Tarkanian Classic in Henderson, Nev. The Thunder will conclude the tournament with a game against Bonanza of Las Vegas at 8 a.m. Thursday.
