Prep roundup: Skyview boys win opener at Cactus Jam in Phoenix

Malakai Weimer scored 20 points and Joshua Chatman added 15 as the Skyview boys basketball team opened play in the Cactus Division of the Cactus Jam tournament with a 70-39 win over Soledad (Calif.) in Phoenix.

Weimar scored 10 points in the second quarter as Skyview (7-0) opened a 37-19 halftime lead.

Gavin Perdue added 14 points, and Demaree Collins had 11 for the Storm, who will play Cleveland Heights (Ohio) in the Cactus Division semifinals at 12:30 p.m. (PST) Wednesday.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS (Ohio) 77, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 41 —The Knights lost their opener at the Cactus Jam in Phoenix. King’s Way Christian will face Soledad (Calif.) at 9:30 a.m. (PST) on Wednesday. No other details were reported.

EVERGREEN 66, LIFE CHRISTIAN 56 — Landon Raynor and Dez Daniel scored 15 points each as Evergreen pulled away with a 22-10 third quarter to win its first game at the T-Town Throwdown at Silas High School in Tacoma.

Trailing 31-29 at halftime, Evergreen surged ahead 51-41 after the third quarter.

Quincy Caston added 12 points for the Plainsmen, and Shawn Jack had 11.

Evergreen (3-6) next faces Foss of Tacoma at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

CAMAS 79, SHELDON (Ore.) 70 — Jamison Carlisle and Theo McMillan each scored 19 points as the Papermakers won a road game in Eugene, Ore.

Beckett Currie added 18 points, hitting four of his team’s nine 3-pointers.

Camas (6-3) led 41-25 at halftime before Sheldon (4-6) pulled within 54-45 after three quarters.

FOSS 82, WOODLAND 70 — Woodland dropped its opener at the T-Town Throwdown in Tacoma. The Beavers will face Life Christian at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. No other details were reported.

COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 54, MONTESANO 46 — Mason Hamilton scored 20 points and Porter Haskell added 15 as the Bruins won a non-league at Montesano.

Girls Basketball

SETON CATHOLIC 61, CENTRALIA 47 — Anna Mooney had 20 points and seven assists as the Cougars improved to 8-1 with a non-league home win.

Hanna Jo Hammerstrom added 17 points for Seton Catholic, which led 40-26 at halftime.

MARK MORRIS 53, WARRENTON (Ore.) 10 — Brooklyn Schletch had 10 points and six steals as the Monarchs (5-3) opened play at the Vince Dulcich Tournament in Astoria. Ore. with a win.

SNOHOMISH 56, KELSO 31 — Lexi Grumbois scored nine points and Madalynn Moe added eight points, but the Lassies (3-3) couldn’t keep pace at the T-Town Throwdown in Tacoma.

Snohomish (3-4) outscored Kelso 48-30 after an even first quarter.
