Ella Schoene from La Center volleyball is The Columbian 2022-23 Week 4 prep athlete of the week

Schoene edges out Skyview swimmer Paula Galvez for the honor

La Center volleyball player Elle Schoene is the The Columbian 2022-23 Week 4 high school athlete of the week.

Schoene received 659 votes to narrowly edge out Skyview swimmer Paula Galvez for the honor.

Schoene had 13 kills and nine digs in a win over Stevenson, added 14 kills and 16 digs in a win over Columbia-White Salmon, then led the Wildcats to a runner-up finish at the Lumberjill Invite.

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Nominees are posted and voting commences each week by 9 a.m. Tuesday, and voting continues until 7 p.m. Thursday.

Here are what the other nominees accomplished last week:

PAULA GALVEZ, SKYVIEW GIRLS SWIMMING: Galvez won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and helped the Storm win the 400 free relay at the Kelso Invitational.

ELI HUNTINGTON, CAMAS BOYS GOLF: The senior shot a 5-under 31 at a match at Camas Meadows, then shot a 5-under 66 in a runner-up finish at the Prairie Invitational.

KENDALL LAWSON, HOCKINSON GIRLS SOCCER: Lawson had two goals and assist in a win over Mark Morris and two more goals in a 3-2 loss to R.A. Long.

ADAM WILLIAMS, HUDSON’S BAY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Williams finished second overall at the Harvest Classic in Longview in 16:03.
