Overnight closures on the Interstate 5 Bridge will occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday and Sept. 23 while Oregon Department of Transportation crews oil and grease 6½ miles of bridge cables.

The two spans will not be raised at the same time, leaving one sidewalk open at all times for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The detour for southbound traffic is state Highway 14 east to Interstate 205 and the Interstate 205 Bridge south to Oregon.

The detour for northbound traffic is Interstate 84 east to I-205 and north over the I-205 Bridge into Washington.

ODOT crews first oil and then grease by hand the cables that keep the lift apparatus on the 105-year-old bridge operating properly. The cables are used to raise and lower the bridge spans.
