Weather Eye: We may see 80s again as summer lingers

High temperatures in the 80s for mid-September is fantastic and we do it again today. That large low that dropped off our coast caused the air circulation to move offshore and there we go. Even the coast had highs in the 75- to 80-degree range. About as nice as it gets this time of the year.

As that weather system in Northern California spins eastward later tonight some sprinkles or showers may move northward and brush us. I’m guessing not but thought I would mention it if raindrops fall upon your head.

Highs will settle back in the 70s the rest of the week, but rain chances decrease and summer lingers. Weather forecast charts are once again showing highs in the low 80s Sunday and Monday. Wow. Will we have payback later this fall?

The fall equinox arrives Thursday at 6:04 p.m. and then it will be autumn officially for everyone besides us weather and climate folks. There are subtle signs we’ll have another low-pressure system drop down from Alaska next week and this one may be closer to us than the one recently. If so, we may get a soaking rain. Long ways off in the realm of weather but we mention it regardless.

That storm that did settle over Northern California dumped heavy rain on many of the wildfires, even in Central and Southern Oregon via thunderstorms and heavy rain cells. Mount Lassen even had a dusting of snow on its upper slopes. Once we get a few cold storms in October dropping down from the north, Mount Hood and St. Helens will get a little of the white stuff as well. Of course, it would only be temporary, not the snowpack building variety. Way too early for that but entertaining.

The average mean temperature in Vancouver so far this month is 69.1 degrees, compared to the average of 65.6 degrees. Rainfall is a scant .07 of an inch. The month will undoubtedly go in the record books as a warm and dry month. We hear that often, don’t we?

Enjoy the week.
