New on DVD: Put the pedal to the metal with ‘Fast X’

The latest joyride with Dom Toretto and crew tops the DVD releases for the week of Aug. 8.

“Fast X”: The “Fast and Furious” team kicks off the first part of a three-part finale with a globe-trotting, diesel-fueled adventure that features Jason Momoa as the franchise’s new villain.

“Rest assured, family, in ‘Fast X,’ the Coronas are cold, the booties are shaking and the sleeves remain optional,” writes Tribune News Service critic Katie Walsh in her review. “But the jumbled lore and odd treatment of characters may leave fans with more questions than answers, and wondering if the franchise is running on fumes.”

“The Wrath of Becky”: Lulu Wilson returns to take on more fascist bad guys as the teen heroine in this sequel to 2020’s “Becky.”

“The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster”: Sci-fi horror flick about a teen girl willing to do anything to bring her murdered brother back from beyond the grave.

“1923: A Yellowstone Origin Story: Season One”: Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren head the Dutton clan during the Great Depression in the latest prequel in the “Yellowstone” franchise.

“97 Minutes”: The clock is ticking as fuel supplies dwindle in this hijack thriller set aboard a 767 airplane. Starring Alec Baldwin and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

“Sun Moon”: Faith-based romance film about an American woman teaching English in Taiwan who falls for a fellow teacher.

“Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams”: The Criterion Collection updates the Japanese director’s 1990 film on 4K Ultra HD.

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”: Spider-Man Miles Morales learns to write his own story as he contends with the legions and lore of Spider-People across the multiverse in this animated sequel.
