Letter: Republicans have no answers

By Dan Heynen, Vancouver

I just read Matt Garland’s letter (“Rally behind Joe Kent,” Our Readers’ Views, Aug. 23) and am assuming that it is sarcasm. With unprecedented higher temperatures, severe storms and wildfires, he wants to walk away from the “green” issues his “jaded” friends are concerned about. Jade? Green? OK, I get it. Ha-ha.

And he supports Joe Kent for prosperity, safety and health? Really? Kent is a follower of Donald Trump, who is only concerned about his own prosperity and that of his wealthy friends who were the only ones who benefited from his massive tax cuts that drove up the deficit. Safety? How about the safety of school students at risk of literally being blown away by the large-capacity semi-automatic guns that Kent insists should remain legal for everyone? Health? Last I checked, Joe Kent was not in favor of universal health care or life-saving COVID vaccines.

Yup! Gotta be sarcasm. Every thinking, caring American should realize by now that if you care about the future of the planet, the economy, safety and health, the Republican Party has as many solutions as they do for women’s reproductive concerns, voting rights and sexual orientation issues. Zip.
