The Greater Vancouver Chamber is encouraging middle school students in Southwest Washington to apply for the National Civics Bee, a competition where students can win prizes for their knowledge of American civics.

The competition features an essay competition and live quiz event. Essay submissions are due Jan. 8, 2024. The live quiz event, which will feature 20 finalists from the essay competition, will take place March 23, 2024. All sixth, seventh and eighth grade students are eligible to apply.

The first place prize is $500, the second place prize is $250 and the third place prize is $125. The top three contestants will move on to the statewide civics competition.
