Boys basketball: Battle Ground holds off Union 49-47 for 4A GSHL win

Battle Ground held Union to a single 3-pointer over the final four minutes to hang on for a 49-47 win a 4A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball road win on Friday. 

Boston Walker’s drive in the lane gave Battle Ground a 49-44 lead with 3:30 to play. 

Paxton Heitsch’s 3-pointer with about a minute to play cut the lead to 49-47. The Titans got another look at a go-ahead 3-pointer with 10 seconds to play, but it missed and Walker pulled down the rebound.

Noah Currie led Battle Ground with 14 points and six assists. Trey Spencer added 13 for the Tigers.

Kody Holcomb scored 20 points to lead the Titans.

HOCKINSON 70, WOODLAND 68 — Payton Pope scored 22 points, including the go-ahead basket with four seconds to play, to lift the Hawks to a 2A GSHL road win.

The game was tied 68-68 when Pope took an inbounds pass with 12 seconds to play and drove down the right side of the key to put up a floater for the go-ahead basket.

Pope hit five 3-pointers, and Ryker Kitchen hit four 3-pointers to score a game-high 24 points for Hockinson.

Sam Jeschke scored 23 to lead Woodland.

PRAIRIE 93, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 48 — The Falcons made 13 3-pointers and picked up the non-league win at King’s Way.

Josh Crane had 14 points to lead a balanced Prairie attack. Malachi Patton, Solomon Ogbeama and Carson  Morningstar each scored 12 points, and Cam Newsome had 11.

Keiden Carney led King’s Way in scoring with 10 points.
