Young was a sub-regional champion last weekend

Prairie wrestler Aaliyah Young is the The Columbian 2022-23 Week 18 high school athlete of the week.

Young received 293 of the 1,000 votes cast this week to win the honor.

Young won two matches by fall to win the 170-pound division at the 4A/3A girls sub-regional meet at Prairie.

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Nominees are posted and voting begins each Monday and runs through Wednesday.

  3. Bridget Quinn, King’s Way, 197

Here are the accomplishments of the other nominees:

TENNYSON KURTZ, COLUMBIA RIVER BOYS WRESTLING: Kurtz won two matches by fall and the final by technical fall to win the 145-pound division at the 2A Greater St. Helens League tournament.

YANNI FASSILIS, UNION BOYS BASKETBALL: Fassilis scored 32 points in a win over Battle Ground, then added 31 points in a win over rival Camas.

BRIDGET QUINN, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN GIRLS BASKETBALL: Quinn scored 17 points in big win over Seton Catholic and added 31 in a win over Columbia-White Salmon.

OWEN WONG, MOUNTAIN VIEW BOYS SWIMMING: Wong won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle then swam on two winning relays at the Class 3A District 4-8 meet at Kelso.
