New on DVD: ‘Scream VI’ a tasty slice

The latest entry in the preeminent slasher movie franchise tops the DVD releases for the week of July 11.

“Scream VI”: Ghostface takes Manhattan as he hunts down the Woodsboro crew who have gone off to college in this installment starring Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega and Courteney Cox.

“ ‘Scream’ movies are like pizza — when they’re good, they’re great, and even when they’re not as good, they’re still satisfying,” writes Tribune News Service critic Katie Walsh in her earlier review. “Thankfully, ‘Scream VI’ is a tasty slice.

“Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.”: This adaptation of the classic Judy Blume young adult novel follows the trials and tribulations of Margaret Simon, contending with puberty, sixth grade gender politics and real world existential questions in 1970 New Jersey. Starring Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates.

“Book Club: The Next Chapter”: Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen return as the ladies of the randiest book club in Brentwood set out for a post-pandemic adventure in Italy in this sequel.

“Beau Is Afraid”: Writer-director Ari Aster’s latest film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a middle-aged man whose attempt to return home to visit his mother becomes a nightmarish odyssey of anxiety, guilt and shame.

“Sisu”: In this hyperviolent Finnish import, a man kills Nazis in bloody, gruesome fashion.
