Vancouver Police Department boosts hiring efforts amid struggles to recruit, retain officers

On a recent Thursday, three Vancouver police officers stood around a table at a law enforcement hiring fair near Portland.

The officers handed out lip balm, hand sanitizer bottles, pens and tote bags labeled “JOIN VPD” to potential applicants at their table, which displayed a department surveillance drone in front of flashy marketing videos designed to bring in job applications.
