Nominees for The Columbian 2023-24 Week 8 prep athlete of the week

Voting continues through 7 p.m. Thursday

Here are the nominees for the The Columbian 2023-24 Week 8 high school athlete of the week.

Voting will continue until 7 p.m. Thursday.

To avoid vote manipulation, voting is restricted by IP address, one vote per IP address. That means people voting while connected to a public WIFI access may be unable to vote. We suggest voting be done by private internet access or through your cellular provider.

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Nominees are posted and voting begins each Tuesday and runs through Thursday.

Here are the nominees:

TEAGHAN IRVIN, MOUNTAIN VIEW GIRLS SOCCER: Irvin scored all three goals, including the game-winner on a penalty kick, in a playoff win over Timberline.

ELLIE MATHISON, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN VOLLEYBALL: Mathison had 30 kills, 28 digs and four aces in two league wins for the Knights.

SAM SOTO, SETON CATHOLIC BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Soto won the District 4 meet at Lewis River Golf Course, winning in 16:18.

CHARLOTTE WILSON, UNION GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: Wilson placed second overall by 23 seconds at the Westside Classic bi-district meet in 18:32.

LEO ZHAO, CAMAS BOYS TENNIS: Zhao won the 4A bi-district singles title, rallying to beat Rohan Thawani of Union 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
