The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 22-year-old Vancouver man as the person killed in a Saturday morning shooting in the Maplewood neighborhood.

James Sinem died from a penetrating gunshot wound to the chest, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide, meaning it resulted from another person’s deliberate action. The ruling does not make any judgments about criminal culpability.

Vancouver police responded about 3:20 a.m. to a report of gunshots and a person lying on the sidewalk at the intersection of 18th and Bryant streets.

When officers arrived, they found Sinem unresponsive. Despite lifesaving efforts by officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vancouver police’s Major Crimes team is investigating. Anyone with information related to this incident should call the Vancouver Police Department tip line at 360-487-7399.
