Girls basketball: Big game from McKenzie Schockelt leads La Center over Stevenson

McKenzie Schockelt had 15 points, 13 rebounds and six steals as the La Center girls basketball held on to beat Stevenson 45-40 to stay in the playoff hunt in the Trico League on Saturday

The win improved La Center (8-10) to 3-5 in the Trico League and moved the Wildcats into a tie for fourth place, 1.5 games between Stevenson and King’s Way Christian at 4-3. 

Jesse Tomberlin scored eight points, including two free throws late to clinch the win.

Sofia Spencer had 17 points to lead Stevenson.

MARK MORRIS 61, HOCKINSON 51 — Reese Johnston had 16 points, seven assists and seven steals to lead the Monarchs to a win over a shorthanded Hockinson team.

Natalie Mejia hits seven of eight shots from the field for 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and four blocks.

Freshman Dannika Grant scored 17 points, and senior Siena Brown added 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for Hockinson, who was missing two starters. 

WOODLAND 59, R.A. LONG 37 — Kennedy Bockert had 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Addi Stading added 15 points to lead the Beavers.

Collette Macdonald added 14 rebounds, and Lainey Haden had a solid all-around game for the Beavers with eight points, nine steals, four assists and six rebounds.

SHELDON (Ore.) 45, SKYVIEW 32 — Kiera Parks scored 10 points for the Storm in a non-league game against Sheldon of Eugene, Ore.
