With the National Weather Service in Portland predicting temperatures in the 90s, the Council for the Homeless issued a severe weather alert for Tuesday.

The alert increases shelter capacity and alerts Clark County organizations to provide additional resources.

The weather service predicts temperatures will reach a high of 95 degrees and a low of 65 overnight.

People who need housing and shelter assistance should call Council for the Homeless’ Housing Hotline at 360-695-9677 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. holidays and weekends.

C-Tran will not turn away any passenger riding to a cooling center. Passengers should tell the operator as they board that they’re heading to a cooling center, according to C-Tran.

There are two daytime cooling centers open Tuesday. River City Church, which is on the Fourth Plain Vine route, will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at 2400 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., in Vancouver. Mill Plain United Methodist Church will be open from 2-8 p.m. at 15804 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver. The church is on C-Tran’s Mill Plain Vine route.

Pets are welcome at both locations; they must be on a leash or in a cage at Mill Plain United Methodist Church.

Additional places to cool off are listed on 211info.org.
