HOCKINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS RELEASE
In their search for a new superintendent, the Hockinson School District Board of Directors has named four finalists to be interviewed by the board and groups of community members, staff and students. After a comprehensive screening process the Board has narrowed the field to:
Donald Brannam, who currently serves as superintendent
of the Griffin School District, near Olympia, Wa. Brannam
received his Doctorate from The Ohio State University and
his Master's degree from The College of Idaho.
Michael Grubbs, superintendent of the Green Mountain
School District. Grubbs earned his Juris Doctor from the
University of Arizona and his Master's degree from San Jose
State University.
Mark Ross, Principal of Evergreen High School and previous
Executive Director of Secondary Schools for the Evergreen
School District. Ross earned his Master's degree from
Western Washington University and his Bachelor's from the
University of Washington.
Sandra Yager, principal of Hockinson High School. Prior to
coming to Hockinson she served as both a teacher and
principal in the Vancouver School District. Yager is
currently working towards a Doctorate in education and
earned her Master's degree from Washington State University.
The Board reviewed 23 application packets before deciding to advance the four finalists through to the interview process. Interviews will begin on March 13th with a panel of students. That session will be followed by individual interviews by a select group of Hockinson staff members and culminating with an evening session with a representative committee of community members. The following day, March 14th, the Hockinson School Board will interview the finalists.
According to Board President Erik Mattson, the board is confident they will find a good fit among the four finalists. "These individuals possess the personal characteristics, leadership qualities and professional qualifications that are important to the entire Hockinson community," said Mattson. While the board will make the final decision on who will become the next superintendent, stakeholder feedback is a critical part of the selection process, Mattson noted.
"We know this is one of the most important decisions we as a board will make," said Mattson. "We want to assure a thorough, fair and productive process that includes consideration from our stakeholders," he added.
In addition to the public involvement in the interview process, Hockinson citizens can take a short survey to share feedback about strengths that are important in a new superintendent. Go to www.hock.k12.wa.us to access the survey.
The board hopes to name its new leader by mid-April.
