EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Julian Norfleet nailed a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to play, lifting Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) to a 56-54 win over Monmouth, N.J. on Thursday night.
The Mountaineers (8-16, 6-5 Northeast Conference) trailed 54-53 after a layup from Marcus Ware with 17 seconds to go put the Hawks in front.
A layup from Shawn Atupem gave Mount St. Mary’s a 50-42 lead with 10:32 remaining, but the Mountaineers went 5:44 before making another field goal. Danny Thompson ended the drought with a layup, extending the lead to 52-48 with 4:52 left.
The Hawks (6-17, 2-9) led for a majority of the opening half and 28-26 at the break. Monmouth held two one-point leads in the second half.
