Maintenance work on the Interstate 5 Bridge will cause multiple bridge lifts both Friday and Saturday night, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The lifts will happen between 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, then between 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday, according to ODOT. The lifts, lasting up to 25 minutes each, will close the bridge to all traffic including bicycles and pedestrians.

Crews will be oiling the five miles of cable on the twin drawbridge spans, according to ODOT. Preparations for that work required a bridge lift on the northbound side of the bridge Thursday morning.

Motorists should expect delays on I-5 both nights. People traveling between Vancouver and Portland can use Interstate 205 as an alternate route during the closures.
