Mischief Maker wins Big A's Swirlaway Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mischief Maker easily beat two rivals Sunday to notch her first stakes win in the $67,500 Swirlaway for New York-bred fillies and mares on Sunday at Aqueduct.

Opus A, the 3-5 favorite, set the pace until the final turn when Mischief Maker ranged alongside to challenge. After a brief duel, Mischief Maker pulled clear, cruising to a 714-length victory in the mud. Opus A was second, well clear of the trailing Shesabronxbomber.

Cornelio Velasquez, who had three wins on the day, was aboard for trainer Bruce Brown. The time was 1:38.90 for the mile.

Mischief Maker paid $4.90 to win as the 7-5 second choice. There was no place or show betting.
