Community notebook: Dolezal fastest at Turkey Trot

Mueller is fastest female in annual running event

Eric Dolezal of Vancouver won the Clark County Running Club’s annual Turkey Trot race on Saturday, finishing almost two minutes ahead of the runner-up.

Dolezal, 33, completed the 3.1-mile run in 17 minutes and 17 seconds. Joe Dudman of Portland, 51, was second in 19:06. The race started and ended at Marine Park.

Katarina Mueller of Vancouver, 24, was the women’s winner. She was seventh overall in 20:01.

A total of 160 runners participated. Results for the 126 of them who had official times recorded are in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

The Clark County Running Club raffled off 28 turkeys following the run.

This Saturday at 10 a.m., the CCRC is offering the choice between a 3-mile and a 7-mile run on the Heritage Trail along the shore of Lacamas Lake. The run starts and ends at Lacamas Park, 3344 N.E. Everett Street in Camas.

Soccer team drops indoor opener

Vancouver Victory FC lost its first game in the Western Indoor Soccer League.

The local amateur soccer club fell 9-5 at Bellingham United. Jared Brace scored twice and Jerson Mejia, Cody Guthrie and Bryanth Garcia had goals for Victory FC.

A member of the Evergreen Premier League of Washington for the past two summers, this is the first time Victory FC has fielded an indoor team.

Vancouver will play its first WISL home game at 7 p.m. on Dec. 5 at Clark County Indoor Sports against the Oly Town Artesians.

Tennis club fetes its first year

Evergreen Tennis, an indoor tennis facility in Camas, will celebrate its first anniversary with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The event is open to the public. Activities will include a radar gun to measure serving speed, tennis related games for families and junior players, and a cardio tennis classes.

Evergreen Tennis is located at 5225 N.W. 38th Ave.

The facility opened on Thanksgiving weekend in 2014. According to a press release about the open house, Evergreen Tennis has more than 400 junior players taking lessons and more than 100 adult members.

Youth baseball clinics in December

The Trapper Baseball Camp for students in grades 1-8 will feature sessions on hitting on Dec. 6, fielding on Dec. 13 and pitching on Dec. 20.

The clinics will take place in the Fort Vancouver High School gymnasium. Sessions for players in grades 1-4 will run 3 to 5 p.m. Sessions for grades 5-8 run 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Cost of the camp is $10 per session or $25 for all three sessions. The camp includes individual and group instruction from coaches will experience playing and coaching college baseball.

Rugby referees wanted

Battle Ground Youth Rugby is looking for referees for the spring 2016 season.

The first step is to take online courses to learn the basic rules of the sport. A local course on Feb. 7 will provide more in-depth training.
