Police have identified a person of interest in a shooting that left two men dead in east Vancouver on Sunday, but they have made no arrest in the case.

Investigators were following up on the double homicide case Monday and recovered a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle seen leaving the area of the shooting. It is being processed by the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Unit.

Officers and medical personnel were called to the 1500 block of Northeast 140th Avenue just before 5:15 p.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired, according to the department.

When they arrived at the residence, they found two males dead at the scene. They are investigating the incident as a double homicide, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

Police say they believe the victims and the suspect were known to each other, though the identities of the victims and the person of interest were not released.

Kapp said she couldn’t say that there was no risk to the public, but said that investigators are actively working to detain the person responsible. She said she did not know a potential motive for the deaths.

“The person responsible for the death of two people is not yet in custody … that’s certainly concerning,” she said. “It’s of the utmost urgency that we take someone into custody that’s responsible for this.”
