Jones, Robert Morris beat James Madison 82-77

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Velton Jones scored a career-high 38 points to lead Robert Morris over James Madison 82-77 on Tuesday night.

Jones was 10 of 15 from the field and 15 of 19 from the free-throw line as the only double-digit scorer for the Colonials (3-1).

The Colonials outscored James Madison 26-8 in the paint, shooting 49 percent from the field (25 of 51). Robert Morris also outrebounded the Dukes 37-27 in The Philly Hoop Group Classic contest.

A.J. Davis scored 22 points to become the first James Madison (1-3) player since Darren McClinton in 1995-96 with three 20 point games to open the season.

Humpty Hitchens added 21 points and a career-high 10 assists for James Madison, which tied a school record of 34 3-point attempts, making 16.

The Colonials shot 82.9 percent from the foul line (29 of 35), while the Dukes were 17 of 28 (60.7 percent).
