A 70-year-old Vancouver motorcyclist died Sunday morning when he collided with a power pole in northwest Oregon.

Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings said William Jay Davies’ motorcycle was on Highway 202 just east of the Highway 103 junction north of Jewell.

OSP Sergeant Andrew Merila said the accident happened at approximately 11:27 a.m. He said Davies was riding a 2004 Honda motorcycle westbound on Highway 202 near milepost 29. As the motorcycle came out of a curve, it drifted onto the shoulder and went down an embankment, colliding with the pole.

Davies was pronounced dead the scene. He was wearing a protective helmet, the OSP said.
