Brian Humphreys, a 14-year-old from Washougal, shot 2-under par 72 to win the Boys Division at the Bob Allard Memorial July 30 and 31, at the Rose City golf course in Portland.

The win hatched an opportunity to play in the Hogan Cup, which is going on right now, at the Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland. Humphreys is in a foursome with Nick Baines, Clayton Madey and Clay Reis.

The Hogan Cup 36-hole matches pit the best junior golfers from the western United States and Canada against each other in a team format with the three lowest scores each day determining the team total. Medals are awarded to the top three teams as well as the top three individuals in the field.

The event began in 1969 in commemoration of the vast achievements and contributions to the sport by Eddie Hogan, a long time head golf professional who served the Oregon Golf Association from 1939 until his death by drowning in 1968. He was credited for transforming the role of golf professional, developing what is now considered the standard for the green grass pro shop.

Hogan Cup alumni include Bobby Clampett, Fred Couples, Joe Rassett, Jack Renner, Lennie Clements, Scott Simpson, Rick Fehr, Robert Gamez, Bill Sanders, Kirk Triplett, Jim Nelford, John Fought, Peter Jacobsen, Jeff Quinney, Casey Martin, Jason Gore and Tiger Woods.

Humphreys has also qualified for the OGA Tournament of Champions, Sept. 8, at the Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore.
