Italian Wedding wins $150K Saratoga steeplechase

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Italian Wedding took the lead above the final fence and won the $150,000 New York Turf Writers Cup Steeplechase by a length Thursday at Saratoga Race Course.

The 8-year-old gelding ridden by Bernard Dalton gave trainer Jonathan Sheppard his 14th win in this race. He also owns Italian Wedding and was rewarded with a $90,000 share of the purse.

Italian Wedding ran 2 3/8 miles in 4:30.81 and paid $3.90, $2.40 and $2.10. He was coupled in the betting with two others including Martini Brother, who finished third. All Together, runner-up in a field of nine, paid $7.10 and $5.20.
