NEW YORK (AP) — Sunny Desert extended her winning streak to six, rallying to beat Moon Philly by a length Sunday in the $75,000 Cat Cay Stakes for 4-year-old fillies at Aqueduct.

Ramon Dominguez was aboard for her first race against open company after fashioning a 5 for 10 mark against New York breds. Trained by John Parisella, Sunny Desert ran a mile and 70 yards in 1:42.46.

The race was marred by a fatal spill when the pacesetting Wildcat’s Smile fell at the top of the stretch. The winner of Aqueduct’s Sarcastic Stakes last month was put down on the track and jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. was taken to the first aid station for evaluation.

Sunny Desert paid $4.30 and $2.50. Moon Philly returned $3, and Morrow Cove was third. There was no show wagering on the four-horse race.
