A Vancouver man died Sunday while scuba diving in the Hood Canal, about 10 miles north of Shelton.

Authorities identified the man as Todd Randall MacDonald, 56, of Vancouver. The Mason County Coroner’s Office said MacDonald’s cause of death has not yet been determined, and that an autopsy had been scheduled.

Mason County sheriff’s Detective William Adam said MacDonald was diving with a group Sunday morning near Hoodsport at a popular dive area called Octopus Hole.

Police and emergency personnel were called to the area around 10:30 a.m. after receiving a report that MacDonald had surfaced while unconscious.
