A Washougal man was hospitalized following a head-on collision Thursday afternoon on state Highway 14 near Washougal.

According to the Washington State Patrol, 27-year-old David Garcia Hernandez, of Wapato, was heading west on Highway 14 near Washougal around 2 p.m.

Richard S. Janiszewski, 50, was heading east. The State Patrol said Garcia Hernandez’s pickup crossed the center line and collided with Janiszewski’s SUV in the eastbound lane.

The crash totaled both vehicles, which came to rest in the roadway.

Garcia Hernandez was uninjured, according to the State Patrol, but Janiszewski was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. He was listed there as in satisfactory condition early Thursday evening.

The crash blocked traffic heading both directions on the highway around Washougal River Road and 32nd Street for a little more than an hour, as officials redirected traffic.

The State Patrol said inattention caused the crash, and that Garcia Hernandez was cited for failure to drive on the correct side of the road.

Multiple collisions, traffic incidents, nasty weather and other backups in the more eastern reaches Highway 14 were also reported Thursday.
