Clark County Public Utilities District Commissioner Jim Malinowski will likely retain his seat on the utility’s board, beating out challenger Sherry Erickson with about 56 percent of the votes, according to Tuesday night’s returns.

Malinowski was ahead of Erickson 68,642 to 53,647, according to Tuesday evening’s returns.

Assuming his lead holds, this will be Malinowski’s second term. He was first elected in 2012. He worked for 31 years at Pacific Gas & Electric as an electrical engineer. He also taught about power utilities at Clark College for eight years.

Utility commissioners serve six-year terms. The commission sets policy, approves budgets, establishes rates, approves major purchases and investments, and selects a general manager for the utility who executes the commission’s policies.
