Hockinson is No. 2 in the state, and Union is No. 3 according to the first Associated Press high school football state rankings.
Hockinson, the defending 2A state champion, came in at No. 2 in the first statewide media rankings despite garnering the most first-place votes.
The Hawks received five first-place votes, but was ranked second behind Tumwater, which received three first-place votes. Tumwater topped the rankings with 93 points, and Hockinson had 84.
Hockinson defeated Tumwater last December for the 2A state title.
Archbishop Murphy of Everett, Hockinson’s Week 2 opponent on Thursday, came third with 83 points.
In Class 4A, Union is ranked tied for No. 3. The Titans received two first-place votes and tied with Mount Si of Snolquamie with 56 points. Graham-Kapowsin tops the poll with 85 points, followed by Chiawana with 61. Camas is in a three-way tie for No. 10 with Gonzaga Prep and Skyline.
