Hockinson, the two-time defending 2A state champion, topped Class 2A in the first Associated Press state media high school football polls released Wednesday.

The Hawks, who opened the season last Friday with a 48-7 win over Toppenish, were an unanimous pick of the six statewide pollsters who cast votes in this first ranking.

Hockinson hosts Archbishop Murphy, ranked fourth in the 2A rankings, on Friday.

In Class 4A, Camas came in at No. 5, followed by Skyview at No. 8. Union received the 11th-most votes.
