A crash on the Interstate 5 Bridge on Tuesday morning was only the beginning of a ponderous commute into Portland for thousands of drivers.

The crash was reported at 6:30 a.m. according to WSDOT and blocked the left lane of the bridge for about 15 minutes — just long enough for traffic on Interstate 5 to back up for miles.

At 8 a.m. southbound traffic was snarled as far north as 78th Street in Hazel Dell. The slow traffic spilled into downtown Vancouver and onto state Highway 500 and Highway 14 as the freeways approached I-5.

Interstate 205 also saw slowing southbound from the merge with I-5 to Northeast 76th street and more slowed traffic on the bridge. Crashes were reported on I-205 at Marine Drive and north of 88th Street.

No details were available about any of the morning crashes.
