Union’s Noah Koyama is The Columbian 2023-24 Week 12 prep athlete of the week, sponsored by Killer Burger

Wrestler won the 138-pound division at the Pacific Coast Championships

Noah Koyama of Union wrestling is The Columbian 2023-24 Week 12 high school athlete of the week, sponsored by Killer Burger.

Koyama picked up 1,131 votes to earn the weekly honor.

Koyama went 5-0, including an 8-0 decision over Ruben Rios of Toppenish, to win the 138-pound division at the Pac Coast Championships.

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Nominees are posted and voting begins each Monday and runs through Wednesday.

Here are the accomplishments of the other Week 12 nominees:

KENNEDY BOCKERT, WOODLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bockert averaged 23 points a game over three games at the T-Town Throwdown tournament in Tacoma.

SIENA BROWN, HOCKINSON GIRLS BASKETBALL: Brown averaged 20 points a game over three games at the Surf ‘N Slam Tournament in the San Diego area.

BECKETT CURRIE, CAMAS BOYS BASKETBALL: Currie has averaged 24 points a game over the past five games and eclipsed the 1,000-point career mark for the Papermakers.

AALIYAH YOUNG, PRAIRIE GIRLS WRESTLING: Young won three matches, all by fall, to win the 190-pound division at the Best of the West Tournament in Pasco.
