Non-league football: Battle Ground 41, R.A. Long 27

Kevin Haynes rushed for more than 315 yard and scored five touchdowns, leading the Tigers to the road win over the Lumberjacks.

Haynes scored on runs of 75, 5, 53 and 41 yards and he also caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from Ian Humphrey.

“The most I have scored in a game is three. Scoring five is a pretty cool experience,” Haynes said. “It shows how well our line did and our receivers did a heckuva nice job downfield.”

Haynes singled out fullback Blake Billingsley, calling him a stud who took on two or three defenders on some plays.

“I did not have to worry about anything on the line,” Haynes said.

Battle Ground coach Larry Peck said Haynes has always been big and strong. Now, after an offseason working out to trim down, Haynes is fast,too.

“The diesel, the bus … he is just relentless when he gets the ball,” Peck said. “But his breakaway speed now is what made the difference.”

The Tigers led 34-14 at the half and made it a 27-point lead before R.A. Long got two fourth-quarter TDs.

Humphrey finished with 177 yards passing. Trevor Ingram scored Battle Ground’s other touchdown, a 12-yard run.
