Motorcycle rider critically hurt in SR 14 crash

A Vancouver motorcycle rider was critically injured Saturday evening in a crash on state Highway 14 in east Vancouver, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Jeffrey M. Hargrave, 36, of Vancouver was driving a 2008 Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle east on the highway at a high rate of speed just before 9 p.m. Saturday when he crashed into the rear of an eastbound 2003 PT Cruiser where the highway passes under Interstate 205, according to WSP.

Hargrave suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center.

The driver of the PT Cruiser, James L. Massey, 66, and his passenger, Jeannine E. Massey, 71, were not injured in the collision, according to WSP. Both are from Vancouver.

Hargrave was wearing a helmet, according to WSP. The agency is investigating the cause of the crash.
