Letter: Don’t overstate impact of ban

By Paul G. Dodds, VANCOUVER
Published: July 10, 2017, 6:00am

Rhonda Lynne Flora writes that “this is the saddest, darkest day Vancouver has ever experienced” because she and her family are no longer allowed to set off fireworks in the city on Independence Day (Our Readers’ Views, July 4).

Interesting perspective. Some might think that Oct. 31, 2014, was a sadder day, when a driver high on marijuana and methamphetamine plowed into a group of trick-or-treaters, killing one of them. Some might think the days in 1989 when Westley Allan Dodd tortured and killed three little boys were sadder days.

Quite frankly, tragic and sad events happen every day in Vancouver. Inability to set off fireworks in one’s driveway isn’t one of them.
