Vancouver police arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a drive-by-shooting Sunday night at a hotel in Vancouver’s Marrion neighborhood.

At 11:45 p.m., callers reported that a man shot at the Woodspring Suites, 200 N.E. 104th Ave., before driving away in a silver SUV. Once they arrived at the hotel, police discovered a damaged exterior glass door and a bullet impact in the building’s hallway, according to a police news release.

No one was reported injured. The suspect and their vehicle, as well as the vehicle’s license plate number, were caught on camera.

Shortly thereafter, employees from Vancouver’s Offramp Bar and Grill, 400 N.E. 112th Ave., called police about a belligerent man at the bar. The man matched the description of the drive-by shooting suspect and was also associated with a silver SUV. Officers found the SUV on Northeast 112th Avenue and attempted a traffic stop, the news release states.

The driver, identified by police as Gavin E. Woods, attempted to elude police, who used a PIT maneuver, or precision immobilization technique, to take Woods into custody, according to the news release.

Police confirmed he was the suspect from the drive-by shooting. They saw a gun, unused rounds and shell casings in the vehicle, police said.

Woods was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of drive-by shooting, attempt to elude, third-degree assault and driving under the influence. His vehicle was seized pending a search warrant, police said.

The Vancouver Police Department Crime Reduction Unit is continuing to investigate.
