Gasoline prices higher than $5 per gallon are posted at a Menlo Park, Calif., Chevron station earlier this year, when in California, gasoline prices jumped overnight by as much as 20 cents a gallon while some stations closed and others charged record prices. Six West Coast senators want the Justice Department to investigate the price spikes following reports West Coast refineries were producing gas when they claimed to be shut down.
